Veterans–there are few words that can grab and retain my immediate attention more than that name. Thank you for your honorable and faithful service. Thank you for keeping watch from every corner of the world, to ensure our endless freedom. Our office recently partnered with Jim Chancellor, President and CEO of American Veterans Collection, to host our first stand down event for homeless veterans. We were able to house our guests at the Calumet Township Multi-Purpose Center for one weekend per month in November, December, January, and February. Local churches served as pick-up stations, where buses were provided from North Township Trustee Frank Mrvan to transport them to our facility at 1900 W. 41st Avenue in Gary. With the help of other organizations and volunteers, we were able to offer hot showers, clean beds, fresh clothes, hot meals, toiletries, heaters and supplies for living outdoors. Games, fellowship, conversation, movies and church services were also provided.

Please know that the office of the Calumet Township Trustee stands ready to assist veterans who may be struggling with rent and utility payments, food, medical assistance and funeral arrangements. We also offer a network of referrals for services that we do not provide.

We are extremely proud to serve those who so willingly gave of themselves.
